The story

A flag (方) leading people (⺕) forward under a banner: a group setting out on a journey together. The Japanese tradition of 旅 runs deep, from Matsuo Bashō's poetic wanderings along the Oku no Hosomichi to modern-day 一人旅 (hitoritabi, solo travel). In Japan, the journey itself is the destination.

Used in 旅行 (ryokou, travel), 旅館 (ryokan, Japanese inn), and 旅人 (tabibito, traveler)
