The story
Movement (辶) that reaches through (甬): flowing through without stopping. Japan's 通勤 (tsuukin, commuting) culture is legendary: millions pass through stations like Shinjuku daily. A 通 (tsuu) is also someone who knows a subject deeply, having "passed through" enough experience to become an expert.
Used in 交通 (koutsuu, traffic/transport), 通勤 (tsuukin, commuting), and 通り (toori, street)
