The story

Movement (辶) following a bird (隹): advancing forward like a bird taking flight. 進む embodies the Japanese spirit of 前進 (zenshin, moving forward). Even Japan's modernization is called 進歩 (shinpo, progress). The Shinkansen's name literally means "new trunk line," but its spirit is pure 進.

Used in 前進 (zenshin, advance), 進歩 (shinpo, progress), and 進む (susumu, to proceed)
