The story

Rice (米) beside 唐, an old Japanese name for China: picture sweet grains shipped over from the continent. 糖 is sugar: 砂糖 is table sugar, 糖分 the sugar in food, and cans marked 糖質ゼロ promise zero carbs.

Used in 砂糖 (satou, sugar), 糖分 (toubun, sugar content), and 糖尿病 (tounyoubyou, diabetes)
