The story

Metal (金) beside 本, root: picture a monk's metal alms bowl, or a pot cradling a plant's roots. 鉢 is a bowl or pot: 植木鉢 is a flowerpot, and 鉢巻, wrapped around the crown of the head, is the headband tied on for festivals and exam cramming.

Used in 植木鉢 (uekibachi, flowerpot), 鉢植え (hachiue, potted plant), and 鉢巻 (hachimaki, headband)
