The story

The sun (日) beside 叚, an old word for borrow: days borrowed back for yourself. 暇 is free time: a friend's 暇? asks if you are free, 暇つぶし is killing time, and 休暇 is time off, a vacation or leave.

Used in 暇 (hima, free time), 休暇 (kyuuka, vacation/leave), and 暇つぶし (himatsubushi, killing time)
