The story

A hand (爫) reaching down to a tree (木): 采 once meant to pick, the job 採 does now. It lives in 采配, a commander's tasseled baton and so a manager's calls, in 喝采, cheers, and in 采, dice, more often written 賽.

Used in 喝采 (kassai, applause/cheers), 采配 (saihai, command/direction), and 風采 (fuusai, appearance/bearing)
