The story

Earth (土) under 孰, "who?": picture a teacher calling on a crowded room. 塾 once named the rooms beside a gate where children were taught; now it is cram school, where Japanese students go after class, and Keio University keeps it in its full name, 慶應義塾.

Used in 塾 (juku, cram school), 学習塾 (gakushuujuku, tutoring school), and 私塾 (shijuku, private academy)
