The story

A roof (宀) sheltering an abundance: fullness stored safely inside. 富士山 (Fujisan, Mount Fuji) literally contains this kanji: "wealth" and "warrior" mountain, considered a source of spiritual and material prosperity. The 富裕層 (fuyūsō, wealthy class) in Edo Japan were often merchants who turned commerce into cultural patronage.
