The story

The Shuowen reads 屯 as a sprout (屮) pushing up through the ground, its root bent with the struggle. Today it is troops massed in one spot: they are 駐屯, stationed, at a 駐屯地, and teens loitering outside a convenience store たむろする, sometimes written 屯する.

Used in 駐屯 (chuuton, stationing of troops), 駐屯地 (chuutonchi, army base/garrison), and 屯田兵 (tondenhei, soldier-settlers)
