The story

Earth (土) heaped beneath a field (田): the old form stacked three 田, a rampart of piled stone and soil. In Japan 塁 is mostly baseball, each base a little fort to hold: 満塁 is bases loaded, and 本塁打, a hit to home base, is a home run.

Used in 本塁打 (honruida, home run), 満塁 (manrui, bases loaded), and 盗塁 (tourui, stolen base)
