The story

Bamboo (⺮) the same (同) from end to end: a hollow tube. 筒 is a tube or cylinder: 封筒 is an envelope, 水筒 the flask children carry on school trips, and diplomas go home from graduation rolled in a 筒.

Used in 封筒 (fuutou, envelope), 水筒 (suitou, water flask), and 円筒 (entou, cylinder)
