Words (言) that push back (斥) against a wrong: making your case. 訴える is to sue, but also to appeal to the heart or complain of pain; prosecutors decide on 起訴, indictment, and a losing side may file a 控訴, an appeal.

Used in 訴える (uttaeru, to sue/appeal), 起訴 (kiso, indictment), and 訴訟 (soshou, lawsuit)
