The story

A gate (門) with a figure (兑) inside: picture a guard checking each person as they pass. 閲 is careful reading: 閲覧 is viewing or browsing, 検閲 is censorship, and 校閲 is the proofreading that checks every fact before print.

Used in 閲覧 (etsuran, viewing/browsing), 検閲 (ken'etsu, censorship), and 校閲 (kouetsu, proofreading)
