The story
The sun (日) weighed on a balance (里): measuring the passage of time and weight alike. 量 is the kanji of precision: 分量 (bunryou, portion) determines the perfect amount of dashi in a soup, while 量子 (ryoushi, quantum) reaches into the smallest scales of the universe. In daily life, 量 answers the eternal question: how much?
