The story

Sickness (疒) wrapped around 叟, an old man: picture someone grown gaunt and thin. 痩せる is to lose weight, the promise of every diet ad, and 痩せ我慢 is putting on a brave face out of pride, like shivering in shorts in winter.

Used in 痩せる (yaseru, to lose weight), 痩せ我慢 (yasegaman, enduring out of pride), and 痩身 (soushin, slimming)
