The story

Water (氵) beside 莫, a sun (日) sinking into the grass (艹): a place where no water is found. 漠 is the wide, empty desert of 砂漠, and anything as shapeless: 漠然 is vague, like a 漠然とした不安, a nameless unease.

Used in 砂漠 (sabaku, desert) and 漠然 (bakuzen, vague/obscure)
