The story
A big (大) bird (隹) slipping out of a hand (寸): the oldest dictionary says 奪 is losing a bird you held. Now it is the grab itself: 奪う is to take by force, 強奪 robbery, and a 争奪戦 is a scramble for a prize.
Used in 奪う (ubau, to snatch/rob), 強奪 (goudatsu, robbery/seizure), and 争奪戦 (soudatsusen, battle for a prize)
