The story

The crown of 学 (study) set over 見 (see): study something until you can see it with your eyes shut. 覚える is to memorize, and the 目覚まし, the alarm clock, is what makes your eyes (目) wake (覚める) each morning.

Used in 覚える (oboeru, to memorize), 目覚まし (mezamashi, alarm clock), and 感覚 (kankaku, sense/feeling)
