The story
Metal (金) beside 真, true: picture a heavy bronze weight set down to hold things still. 鎮 calms what rages: 鎮痛剤 kill pain, a fire is 鎮火, put out, and a 鎮守の森 is the grove where a village's guardian god keeps watch.
Used in 鎮痛剤 (chintsuuzai, painkiller), 鎮火 (chinka, putting out a fire), and 鎮める (shizumeru, to calm/quell)
