The story

Words (言) fitted together like a frame of crossed timbers (冓): a talk built to stand up for a whole class period. A university 講義 is a lecture, the 講師 gives it, and the happiest notice on a campus board is 休講, class canceled.

Used in 講義 (kougi, lecture), 講師 (koushi, lecturer/instructor), and 講演 (kouen, public lecture/talk)
