The story

Water (氵) beside 翟, feathers (羽) over a bird (隹): picture a bird splashing itself clean in a stream. 濯 lives almost only in 洗濯, laundry: a 洗濯機 is a washing machine, and 洗濯物 is the washing hung out on balconies across Japan.

Used in 洗濯 (sentaku, laundry), 洗濯機 (sentakuki, washing machine), and 洗濯物 (sentakumono, the washing)
