The story

Thread (糸) and 召, to summon: picture a thread drawn between two people to call them together. 紹 lives almost only in 紹介, introduction, starting with the 自己紹介 that opens a new class or a new job.

Used in 紹介 (shoukai, introduction), 自己紹介 (jikoshoukai, self-introduction), and 紹介状 (shoukaijou, letter of referral)
