The story

The heart (忄) beside 左 over flesh (月): picture a body slumped to one side, the heart not in it. 惰 is idleness: 怠惰 is laziness, 惰性 is inertia, carrying on from habit alone, and 惰眠を貪る is to lie in bed doing nothing.

Used in 怠惰 (taida, laziness), 惰性 (dasei, inertia/force of habit), and 惰眠 (damin, idle sleep)
