The story
An arrow (矢) pulled from the body and placed in a box: the surgeon's oldest act. Once written with wine jars and shaman's tools, 医 simplified to its essence: removing what harms.
Used in 医者 (isha, doctor), 医学 (igaku, medical science), and 歯医者 (haisha, dentist)
