The story
Fruit hanging on a tree (木): the 田 on top is the fruit itself, not a rice field. What a tree finally bears is its result, so 果 is both: 果物 is fruit, 結果 is the outcome, and 効果 is the effect.
Used in 果物 (kudamono, fruit), 結果 (kekka, result), and 効果 (kouka, effect)
