The story

A hand over a mouth: the right hand, the one that carries food while eating. Calligraphers still write 右 with a different stroke order than 左, an old courtesy the brush remembers.

Used in 右手 (migite, right hand), 右側 (migigawa, right side), and 左右 (sayuu, left and right)
