The story

A hole (穴) in the roof letting in the heart (心) of the sky: 窓 frames the world outside. In traditional Japanese architecture, windows are composed with the same care as paintings: each 窓 is a living scroll of seasons changing.

Used in 窓口 (madoguchi, service window/counter) and 車窓 (shasou, train window)
