The story

A bristly snout (彐) over fruit (果) under a cover (冖): 彙 once named the hedgehog, spines bunched together, and came to mean things gathered by kind. It lives in 語彙, vocabulary, the word every learner of Japanese is busy building.

Used in 語彙 (goi, vocabulary) and 語彙力 (goiryoku, range of vocabulary)
