The story

Drawn as a cloth hanging down. 巾 is a piece of cloth: 布巾 dries the dishes, 雑巾 wipes the floors at school cleaning time, and many Japanese schoolchildren keep a padded 防災頭巾, a disaster hood, on their chairs for earthquake drills.

Used in 雑巾 (zoukin, cleaning rag), 布巾 (fukin, dish towel), and 頭巾 (zukin, hood)
