The story
An ox (牛) offered in the proper rites (義): the animal given up to the gods. 犠 pairs with 牲 in 犠牲, sacrifice, and baseball borrowed it: a 犠打 is a sacrifice bunt and a 犠飛 a sacrifice fly, an out given up so a runner can advance.
Used in 犠牲 (gisei, sacrifice), 犠打 (gida, sacrifice bunt), and 犠飛 (gihi, sacrifice fly)
