The story

Earth (土) beside 或, an area (口) guarded by a halberd (戈) on a strip of land (一): territory someone watches over. 地域 is a local area or community, 区域 a marked zone, and 領域 a territory or field of expertise.

Used in 地域 (chiiki, region/community), 区域 (kuiki, zone/district), and 領域 (ryouiki, territory/domain)
