The story
An eye (目) beside 尞, which the Shuowen ties to a bonfire burned to heaven, as in 療: everything lit up and plain to see. 明瞭 is clear and distinct, and 一目瞭然, clear at a single glance, is what a good chart should be.
Used in 明瞭 (meiryou, clear/distinct), 一目瞭然 (ichimoku ryouzen, obvious at a glance), and 不明瞭 (fumeiryou, unclear)
