Rice (米) standing (立) up one grain at a time. 粒 is a single grain or drop: 雨粒 are raindrops, and Japanese children are told that seven gods live in every grain of rice, so not one should be left in the bowl.

Used in 一粒 (hitotsubu, one grain), 雨粒 (amatsubu, raindrop), and 粒子 (ryuushi, particle)
