The story

A cart (車) parked under the overhang where laundry hangs out to dry (干): 軒 is the eaves of a house. It also counts houses and shops: a 一軒家 is a house of its own, and Tokyo's 三軒茶屋 is named for three old teahouses.

Used in 一軒家 (ikkenya, detached house), 軒並み (nokinami, row of houses/across the board), and 軒下 (nokishita, under the eaves)
